British High Commission Windhoek hosts Chevening Event
British High Commission in Namibia will hold a special Chevening reception on 03.09. 2013.
2013 is the 30th anniversary of the Chevening programme, which began in 1983 and has developed into a prestigious international scheme. To celebrate this important milestone and bid farewell to our two latest scholars from Namibia, the British High Commission in Windhoek will hold a special Chevening evening reception on Tuesday, 3 September, 2013.
We are delighted to confirm the attendance of two Chevening Alumni, Chief Justice Peter Shivute, who will update the guests on the ambitious legal matters concerning Namibia today, and Gerson “Bisey” Uirab, CEO of Namport, presenting to us recent developments regarding NamPort and the extension of the Walvis Bay port.
We will also use the reception to bid farewell to the two 2013/14 Chevening scholarship holders, Marita van Rooyen (Documentary Photography) and Colin Namene (Environmental Management).
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office is committed to ensuring that its Chevening alumni network remains one of the world’s most influential and active alumni communities. Many Chevening Scholars have gone on to reach positions of influence in a range of sectors: some work as MPs, leading journalists, opinion leaders or policy advisors to NGOs and think tanks; others occupy senior positions in public and private organisations. We believe that the Chevening alumni can serve as mentors to the current scholarship holders, in terms of career guidance, information pool, and as players in relevant networks.
