The Consulate General supports interpreters’ training in the margins of the Translation Forum Russia 2014 – and helps mark International Translation Day.
Interpreters from across Russia and beyond attended a two-day training session in the British Consulate General organized by the Business Bureau of the Association of Interpreters. Participants from Astana, Astrakhan, Chelyabinsk, Chusovoy, Ekaterinburg, Moscow, Perm, Tyumen and Ufa learned how to manage stress and emotions, deal with awkward clients and situations, and were taught coping strategies.
Role-playing an awkward client and trying his best to add to the trainees’ stress, Jon Sharp, temporary Consul General in Ekaterinburg, spoke about his work and travels with the Foreign Office. The students were asked to take turns interpreting his remarks, after which the course-leaders and other participants analysed their performance.
At the end of the two day course participants were presented with certificates and a well-earned drink – a fitting way to mark International Translation Day, held every 30 September.
