Speaking today, British Ambassador to Yemen Jane Marriott said:

I strongly condemn the atrocities in Amran yesterday and support the UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser for Yemen’s statement about the continuing violence. The people of Yemen have made it clear that they wanted a peaceful political transition. The future of Yemen is through the implementation of the NDC outcomes – which all parties have signed up to – not through violence and spoiling. UN Security Council Resolution 2140 is clear that action will be taken against those damaging Yemen’s future.

I am deeply concerned by the UN Humantiarian Co-ordinator’s report in Amran and the region. I urge all parties to immediately cease hostilities and adhere to existing ceasefire agreements.
