Following swiftly on the heels of the British & Irish Lions’ hugely successful tour of Australia, Sydney and Melbourne were once again decked out in red this week as Australia welcomed Manchester United and Liverpool to the country. The popularity of these two illustrious English Premiership clubs among Brits and Aussies alike provided a strong platform for staging GREAT events involving key business, government and media contacts.

85 guests packed into the British Consulate General in Sydney on Friday July 19 for an event with Manchester United legends Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke and Denis Irwin as well as a special guest appearance from the Premier League Trophy. It was Manchester United’s 5th trip to Australia, but first this century, and the event was held the day before Man Utd played to a full house of over 80,000 people at ANZ stadium against an all-star 11 from Australia’s A-League.

Meanwhile, in Melbourne, the High Commissioner and Consul General hosted a reception for 140 of Victoria’s business and government elite to mark the occasion of Liverpool Football Club’s first ever visit to Australia. Throughout the course of a lively evening, attendees were able to network with Managing Director Ian Ayre and his executive team alongside Liverpool Legends Ian Rush and Craig Johnston while gaining special access to the squad’s closed training session ahead of its match at the iconic MCG stadium in front of an expected crowd of around 95,000.
