80 disabled children participate in the activities

80 children aged 4-16 are participating in the summer activities of the Athletics School for Disabled People, organised by the Uruguayan Athletic Confederation with the support of the British Embassy and the Uruguayan Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

Activities take place two days a week at the Roosevelt School and in the Athletics official track, led by specialized trainers and teachers. According to the Athletics Confederation, objectives are being successfully accomplished. Those are:

  • Involve kids, young people and adults in organised sports activities.

  • Accomplish integration, internalising values of fair competition and respect for rules.

  • Facilitate the development and participation of disabled people in the athletic society

  • Reduce the stigmatisation and discrimination that often occurs, which is one of the main reasons why disabled people are excluded from sports.

  • Identify potential talents and leaders that in time can specialise in high performance sports

  • Build the moving basis to start training, independently from any future specializations they might choose to do.

  • Generate technical support material for these activities and future ones
