Astana hosted the Kazakh-British Trade and Industry Council
The 17-th Session of the Kazakh-British Trade and Industry Council (KBTIC) took place in Astana on 18 September 2013.
Kazakhstani side was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic of Kazakhstan, H.E. Asset Issekeshev. The UK side was chaired by Sir David Wootton.
The parties discussed a wide range of topics related to trade and economic co-operation, particularly in energy, financial, education, subsoil management, environmental protection sectors.
During the session, the idea of the establishment of Kazakh-British Inter-Governmental Commission on trade-economic and scientific-technical co-operation was also discussed. The idea of the Commission establishment was initiated by President Nazarbayev and the UK’s Prime Minister David Cameron during his visit visit to Kazakhstan in July 2013. The Commission will encourage for the dialogue to take place at the ministerial level for stronger business to business engagement which will strengthen commercial ties between the two countries. The first meeting of the Commission is expected to take place in London either later in 2013 or in 2014. In general, the Kazakh-British relations are developing dynamically in all sectors. The UK is one of the three main investors in Kazakhstan.
Both sides agreed to hold annual 18-th KBTIC meeting in 2014 in London. The exact date of the meeting will be arranged separately and the information will be conveyed through diplomatic channels.
