The British Embassy Tokyo recently played host to a special guest when Arsenal Ambassador Freddie Ljungberg met the British Ambassador to Japan Tim Hitchens. In Japan to promote Arsenal’s upcoming Asia tour that will see the premiership club play games in Indonesia, Vietnam and Japan in July 2013, Freddie Ljungberg presented the Ambassador with a special Arsenal shirt.

The timing of Freddie’s visit is significant. Not only has Japan become the first nation to qualify for the 2014 World Cup, but we are also approaching the one year anniversary of the London 2012 Olympics,

said British Ambassador Tim Hitchens.

Many around the world will look back at 2012 with fond memories of a wonderful summer of sport. I am therefore delighted that Freddie is with us today ahead of Arsenal’s Asia Tour that will come to Japan, ensuring a sporting treat for fans in Japan this summer too.

Freddie Ljungberg was voted into Arsenal’s all-time best XI in an Arsenal.com poll. In ten years of loyal service, the Sweden international helped the team win two Premier League titles and three FA Cups, as well as being part of the side that reached the 2006 Champions League Final. He left Arsenal for West Ham in 2007, and went on to play in the United States, Scotland and Japan.

Arsenal’s Asia Tour 2013 will see the team play in Japan for the first time in more than 40 years, when they play against Arsène Wenger’s former club, Nagoya Grampus, at the 45,000 capacity Toyota Stadium on Monday 22 July. The tour will end in the Saitama Stadium, when Arsenal face the Urawa Reds on Friday 26 July.
