Sixty six outstanding Indonesians and 2 East Timorese were awarded prestigious Chevening scholarships by British Ambassador Moazzam Malik, at a ceremony at the British Embassy on 31 August 2015. The awards, made to exceptional potential future leaders, enable the scholars to undertake postgraduate studies at higher education institutions across the UK.

British Ambassador to Indonesia, ASEAN and Timor-Leste Moazzam Malik said:

Being a Chevening Scholar marks you out as someone with drive and ability and also as someone who wants to contribute to the development of your country. It offers you a unique opportunity to gain academic experience and at the same time to broaden your global and social outlook. Above all, it empowers you with a sense of pride and responsibility.

Britain is home to four of the world’s top ten universities. I am delighted that increasing numbers of Indonesians are coming to study in the UK and gaining the skills to drive Indonesia forward in the 21st century. This year we have trebled the number of Chevening Scholarships we have awarded in Indonesia.

We encourage the brightest graduates in Indonesia to apply to study in the UK so we can continue to build mutually beneficial and long-lasting relationships.

Chevening Alumnus from University of Manchester Yanuar Nugroho said:

Way beyond providing experience to enjoy studying in the UK, Chevening Award has changed not only my career, but most importantly my life. It opened me up to new experience, introduced me to new ways of thinking and ways of living which shape both my professional and personal lives.
