Details

The EU funded ACTIF (Achieving Technological Innovation in Flood Forecasting) project ran from 2003 to 2006. It built awareness of EU and other relevant research on flood prevention, protection and mitigation to influence future flood management policy and practice.

The research included the use of:

  • ensemble forecasting techniques
  • rainfall forecasts using numerical weather prediction
  • remote sensing data
  • uncertainty built into flood forecasting to improve reliability and effectiveness of decisions

The results of the research were made available through a series of best practice papers, European workshops and an international conference. It should have an impact on flood management policy and practice in the medium-term in all EU states.
