Comparing 2023 Quarter 3 (July to September) with 2022 Quarter 3 (July to September):

  • there were 670,000 vehicles registered for the first time in the UK, up 22%
  • there were 93,000 zero emission vehicles registered for the first time in the UK, up 41%

At the end of September 2023:

  • there were 41.3 million licensed vehicles in the UK, an increase of 1.4% compared to the end of September 2022
  • there were 942,000 licensed zero emission vehicles in the UK, an increase of 56% compared to the end of September 2022
  • zero emission vehicles accounted for 2.3% of all road using vehicles, compared to 1.5% at the end of September 2022
