The number of licensed taxis and private hire vehicles in England and Wales as at 1 April 2023.

Details

Statistics on taxi and private hire vehicles (PHV) in England show that as at 1 April 2023:

  • there were 289,400 licensed taxis and PHVs, an increase of 11.0% since 2022
  • 80% of all licensed vehicles were PHVs
  • 55% of licensed taxis were wheelchair accessible
  • all taxis in London were wheelchair accessible
  • 2% of PHVs were wheelchair accessible
  • there were 346,300 driver licences, an increase of 4.9% since 2022
  • 67% of licences were PHV only licences
  • 11% were taxi only licences
  • 21% were dual licences
