Main results

There was a 9% increase in the number of road goods vehicles travelling from Great Britain to mainland Europe in 2014.

Road goods vehicles increased by 242 thousand to 2.9 million taking the total to 1% higher than 2007 in the pre-recession peak.

Of the total road goods vehicles, 2.2 million were powered vehicles and 702 thousand were unaccompanied trailers.

In quarter 4 (October to December) 2014, 792 thousand goods vehicles travelled from Great Britain to mainland Europe (599 thousand powered vehicles and 193 unaccompanied trailers). This was the highest quarter 4 total in the last 30 years.
