Summary

We’re pleased to be publishing our data from post-inspection survey responses as official statistics in development.

We reviewed our statistical publications in 2022. From the responses to that review, we found that there is public interest in Ofsted’s publishing post-inspection survey data routinely.

In 2023, we committed to publish this data annually, with summaries relating to the previous financial year.

From September 2024, graded inspections of state-funded schools no longer include an overall effectiveness grade. Because of this, we no longer report responses to the survey shown by schools’ and providers’ overall effectiveness outcome.

This release relates to post-inspection surveys of early years providers, further education (FE) and skills providers, independent schools, social care providers and state-funded schools.

  • Overall, respondents remain positive about their inspection.

  • Across early years, FE and skills, schools, and social care, more than 9 in 10 providers agreed that their inspection will help them to improve their provision further.

  • Overall, 84% of state-funded schools reported that the benefits of their inspection outweighed any negative aspects. This sentiment was even stronger among early years providers, FE and skills institutions, and independent schools, where more than 9 in 10 respondents agreed.

  • This year, response rates from schools and FE and skills providers were less than half the levels in previous years. 23% of state-funded schools responded, while just under half of social care providers participated. Response rates were lower among independent schools (11%) and FE and skills providers (19%). 7% of early years providers responded – the same as last year.
