Provisional estimates of road traffic, by

  • vehicle type
  • road class

in Great Britain for the year ending March 2025.

Provisional estimates show motor vehicles travelled 335.9 billion vehicle miles in Great Britain for the year ending March 2025. This is up 0.9% compared to the year ending March 2024. Traffic levels were 0.8% below pre-pandemic levels.

When compared to the year ending March 2024:

  • car traffic increased by 0.8% to 255.4 billion vehicle miles
  • van traffic increased by 1.7% to 59.0 billion vehicle miles
  • lorry traffic decreased by 1.2% to 16.6 billion vehicle miles
  • traffic on motorways decreased by 0.6% to 69.9 billion vehicle miles
  • traffic on ‘A’ roads increased by 1.4% to 148.7 billion vehicle miles
  • traffic on minor roads increased by 1.2% to 117.3 billion vehicle miles
