These methodology papers cover all aspects of the overseas and regional trade statistics methodology including data sources, classifications and definitions, quality assurance, publications and governance and are a useful companion to the trade data.

  1. Updated 4. Annex D Trade data by preference to reflect the replacement of the UK's Generalised Scheme Preferences (GSP) by the Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS).

  2. Updated methodology and quality report: annexes, section 3.2. Clarification made on how postal parcels are classified for trade data captured via the Intrastat survey.

  3. In 3.2 Parcel post, last paragraph amended to include Northern Ireland. Changed from: "There is no similar reporting concession for parcel post trade with EU Member States within Intrastat." Changed to: "There is no similar reporting concession for parcel post trade for Northern Ireland trade with EU Member States within Intrastat."

  4. 3.1 Petroleum and petroleum products Annex C updated.

  5. Reference to BEIS was changed to DESNZ. 'PPRS data collected by DESNZ'

  6. The methodology and report document - 1. About HMRC’s Trade in Goods Statistics, has been updated.

  7. The overseas trade in goods methodology and quality report has been updated to reflect changes such as the Windsor Framework. An additional annex (Annex E) has also been added.

  8. Low value consignments aggregation explanation added. (see section 4.4)

  9. HM Revenue & Customs have today released an updated version of the Regional trade in goods statistics methodology document.

  10. The last sentence from Annex A, section 2.1 Electricity (CN Code 2716 0000), has been removed.
