Upcoming changes to modern slavery statistics
Published 14 May 2026
Official statistics published by the Home Office are kept under review in line with the code of practice for statistics, considering several factors including user needs and the resources required to compile the statistics. This allows us to balance the production of our regular statistics whilst developing new statistics for future release.
The planned changes to the ‘Modern slavery: NRM and Duty to Notify (DtN) statistics’, effective from August 2026, are set out below.
1. Year to date presentation of NRM and DtN statistics
Bulletin figures for NRM referrals, NRM decisions and DtN reports will be presented on a year-to-date basis rather than a quarterly basis as presented currently.
An illustrative example based on the most recent publication would be:
‘In the year to March 2026 there were 24,116 referrals to the NRM, representing a 3% increase compared to the year ending December 2025 (23,407)’.
This change will bring the publication into line with other Home Office statistical publications and to reduce the number of publications per year. Quarterly breakdowns of statistics will continue to be available in data tables published alongside future bulletins.
2. Changes to data tables
From August 2026, data tables published alongside NRM and DtN statistics bulletins will be updated in line with other Home Office publications. The data tables will be a mix of summary data tables and pivot tables. This will allow users to more readily access specific breakdowns of the data if required whilst continuing to provide summary statistics in static data tables.
An example of how pivot tables are used to present Home Office statistics can be found in the Illegal entry routes to the UK detailed dataset published as part of the Immigration system statistics publication.
3. Feedback
User feedback is an important part of improving our statistics. If you have any comments or questions about these changes, please contact us at NRMStatistics@homeoffice.gov.uk.
