Key findings this quarter

Two requests are being published this quarter: City & Guilds (3rd analysis) and LandWorks.

City & Guilds (3rd analysis)

City & Guilds provides educational courses to offenders in over 120 prisons across England and Wales, with the aim of equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need to secure employment. Previous analyses were published in February 2017 and January 2019, covering an earlier cohort. This has been published in the Justice Data Lab statistics collection on GOV.UK, covering separate cohorts and sub analyses of the programme.

In this evaluation, men and women were analysed separately due to the known differences in reoffending behaviour. In addition, three sub-analyses were carried out on age, ethnicity and course type where sample size and matching quality were sufficient.

LandWorks

LandWorks provides placements that combine work experience and training with resettlement support, creating a route back into employment for people leaving prison or serving community sentences. Participants engage in market gardening, pottery and woodworking alongside 1-1 counselling, with an emphasis on building employability skills, confidence and social skills.

Justice Data Lab service: available reoffending data

The Justice Data Lab team have brought in reoffending data up to March 2024 into the service. It is now possible for an organisation to submit information on the individuals it was working with between 2002 and March 2024. If you have any questions about the latest available data, please email a member of the team at justice.datalab@justice.gov.uk.
