Impact of correction to chain-linking methodology used in Producer Price Indices and Services Producer Price Indices: October 2025

Since March 2025, regular monthly bulletins for Producer Price Indices (PPI) and Services Producer Price Indices (SPPI) have been suspended while work to apply methodology corrections to the data. The article will accompany the first publication of the fully corrected PPI and SPPI data with the aim of describing the methodology error that was identified in February 2025 and the corrections that have been applied. The article will also provide a summary of how these corrections have affected previously published data and how this has impacted the narrative articulated in the PPI and SPPI data since 2014.
