The HMPPS Annual Digest is a supplement to HMPPS Annual Report and Accounts 2022/23.

The HMPPS Annual Digest statistics cover performance data on prisoner escapes, absconds, temporary release failures and releases in error; Prison population and crowding; foreign and national offender referrals; Prisoner earnings; random mandatory drug testing; Protesting behaviour; Finds in prison; incentives and earned privileges; mother and baby units, pregnant prisoners and births; Community Accommodation Services; Staff in post.

  1. Revision 22/09/2023 An error was found in the Chapter 10 Tables – Mother and Baby Units, Pregnant Prisoners and Births. The figure for total number of pregnant prisoners for 2022-23 was revised from 196 to 194 women. The May 2022 pregnant women in prison figure was revised from 43 to 41 also. The commentary and graphs throughout chapter 10 on pregnant prisoners have been updated. The differences were small and the change does not affect the context nor interpretation of the figures.
