Section 1: Key messages

  • TIFF in Yorkshire and The Humber in 2021 was £461 million, an increase of £63 million (16%) from 2020.

  • Total crop output in Yorkshire and The Humber in 2021 was £1,108 million, an increase of £267 million (32%) from 2020.

  • Total livestock output in Yorkshire and The Humber in 2021 was £1,449 million, an increase of £100 million (7%) from 2020.

  • Total intermediate consumption in Yorkshire and The Humber in 2021 was £1,837 million, an increase of £271 million (17%) from 2020.

2.1 Overview

  • Total livestock output has made the biggest contribution to outputs and subsidies in Yorkshire and The Humber in each of the past 6 years, contributing at least 46.2%. In 2021 Total livestock output contributed 47.2% of the £3,072 million of outputs and subsidies, the 2nd highest proportion of the past 6 years.

  • Direct payments have made up between 8.2% and 10.4% of the total outputs and subsidies in the past 6 years for Yorkshire and The Humber. In 2021, direct payments made up 8.2% of total outputs and subsidies.

  • North Yorkshire had the highest value for outputs and subsidies in Yorkshire and The Humber in 2021 with a value of £1,574 million, 51% of the total outputs and subsidies for Yorkshire and The Humber.

  • The largest crop output in Yorkshire and The Humber in 2021 was Wheat with a value of £335 million, an increase of £145 million (76%) from 2020.

  • The largest increase in a value in Yorkshire and The Humber in 2021 was also in Wheat. The second largest increase was in Other crop products, increasing by £46 million (72%) from 2020 to £110 million in 2021.

  • The largest decrease in a value in Yorkshire and The Humber in 2021, was in Potatoes, decreasing by £13 million (-13%) from 2020 to £86 million in 2021.

  • Compensation of employees has made up between 9.7% and 11.1% of the total inputs and costs in the past 6 years for Yorkshire and The Humber. In 2021, Compensation of employees made up 9.7% of total inputs and costs.
