Section 1: Key messages

  • TIFF in the East Midlands in 2021 was £758 million, an increase of £191 million (34%) from 2020.

  • Total crop output in the East Midlands in 2021 was £1,858 million, an increase of £460 million (33%) from 2020.

  • Total livestock output in the East Midlands in 2021 was £1,208 million, an increase of £49 million (4%) from 2020.

  • Total intermediate consumption in the East Midlands in 2021 was £2,002 million, an increase of £286 million (17%) from 2020.

  • Direct payments have made up between 7.3% and 8.9% of the total outputs and subsidies in the past 6 years for the East Midlands. In 2021, direct payments made up 7.3% of total outputs and subsidies.

  • The largest crop output in the East Midlands in 2021 was Wheat with a value of £502 million, an increase of £251 million (100%) from 2020.

  • The largest increase in a value in the East Midlands in 2021 was also in Wheat. The second largest increase was in Plants and flowers, increasing by £129 million (51%) from 2020 to £385 million in 2021.

  • The largest decrease in a value in the East Midlands in 2021, was in Potatoes, decreasing by £12 million (-14%) from 2020 to £71 million in 2021.

  • The largest value increase in a cost in the East Midlands in 2021 was also in Animal feed. The second largest increase was in Fertilisers and soil improvers which increased by £80 million (64%) from 2020 to £207 million in 2021.

  • The largest value decrease in a cost in the East Midlands in 2021 was in Seeds and planting stock which decreased by £2 million (-1%) from 2020 to £135 million in 2021.
