Section 1: Key messages

  • TIFF in London and the South East in 2021 was £592 million, an increase of £106 million (22%) from 2020.

  • Total crop output in London and the South East in 2021 was £1,296 million, an increase of £199 million (18%) from 2020.

  • Total livestock output in London and the South East in 2021 was £635 million, a decrease of £1 million (<1%) from 2020.

  • Total intermediate consumption in London and the South East in 2021 was £1,244 million, an increase of £94 million (8%) from 2020.

2.1 Overview

  • Total crop output has made the biggest contribution to outputs and subsidies in London and the South East in each of the past 6 years, contributing at least 47.2%. In 2021 Total crop output contributed 52.5% of the £2,467 million of outputs and subsidies, the highest proportion of the past 6 years.

  • Direct payments have made up between 10.6% and 12.3% of the total outputs and subsidies in the past 6 years for London and the South East. In 2021, direct payments made up 10.6% of total outputs and subsidies.

  • The largest increase in a value in London and the South East in 2021 was in Wheat, increasing by £137 million (72%) from 2020 to £325 million in 2021.

  • The largest decrease in a value in London and the South East in 2021, was also in Fruits. The second largest decrease was in Potatoes, decreasing by £4 million (-21%) from 2020 to £15 million in 2021.
