This experimental statistical release covers students who usually live in the UK at both publicly funded and alternative higher education providers in the 2015 to 2016 academic year.

It measures:

• participation rates from under-represented groups in higher education (widening participation)
• retention of full-time HE entrants in subsequent years of their courses

This is the first release to include alternative providers of higher education in the UK performance indicators (UKPI) series produced by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).
