Details

National Statistics on the time taken to bring persistent young offenders to justice.

The monthly release presented figures derived from the Police National Computer, to monitor the 1997 pledge to halve the arrest to sentence time for this offender group (from 142 to 71 days) in England and Wales and all criminal justice areas.

The Secretary of State announced to Parliament that the persistent young offenders pledge would be discontinued with effect from the end of 2008. As a result this bulletin, which monitored the pledge, ended with the December 2008 edition, published on 12 March 2009.

The bulletin was released by the Ministry of Justice and produced in accordance with arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

The bulletin is produced and handled by the ministry’s analytical professionals and production staff. Pre-release access of up to 24 hours is granted to the following persons:

Ministry of Justice: Secretary of State, Minister of State, Under Secretary of State, Permanent Secretary and the relevant press officer.

Office for Criminal Justice Reform: Director of Delivery and Communications, Head of Local Performance Unit and Enforcement Delivery Manager.

Home Office: Home Secretary, Minister of State and Permanent Secretary.

Crown Prosecution Service: Chief Executive.

Department for Children, Schools and Families: Secretary of State, Minister of State, Permanent Secretary, Head of the Joint Youth Justice Unit and Youth Justice Manager.
