Student Loans for Higher Education in Scotland: Financial Year 2025-26

This publication provides statistics on loan outlays, repayments and borrower repayment status for Scotland domiciled students studying in Higher Education (HE) in the UK and EU students studying in Scotland.

The figures cover Income Contingent Loans (ICR), which were introduced in 1998/99, for financial years up to and including 2025-26.

  1. Table 3 (i) Scotland & EU: Number of ICR Student Loans borrowers (000s) An error was found in the ‘Future cohorts’ calculation on row 42. This figure has reduced from 105.0 to 78.8. This change has impacted the total row for ‘All ICR Borrowers, including future cohorts’, where denoted. Table 3 (ii) Scotland & EU: Percentage of ICR Student Loans borrowers (%) The %’s for the ‘All ICR Borrowers including future cohorts’ on row 42, derived from Table 3 (i) have been amended accordingly.
