Details

The latest release of these statistics can be found in the collection of Personal Independence Payment statistics.

These official statistics include data up to 31 October 2022 for:

  • caseloads (cases with entitlement)
  • registrations
  • clearances and awards, including award types & review periods
  • award reviews and changes of circumstance
  • mandatory reconsiderations
  • average clearance times and average outstanding times
  • mandatory reconsideration (MR) clearance times
  • customer journey statistics (experimental) tracking initial decisions following a Personal Independence Payment (PIP) assessment through to mandatory reconsideration and appeal

In addition, they contain annually updated statistics giving Disability Living Allowance (DLA) reassessment comparison of outcomes for both adult and Child DLA claimants.

Changes in this release: Scotland

In the September 2022 release, static tables published as ODS/Excel files were split to give an England and Wales version and a Scotland version, containing:

  • Clearance Times
  • Outstanding Times
  • MR Clearance Times
  • Customer Journey Statistics

However, from September 2022 onwards, clearance and outstanding times in median weeks will not be updated for the Scottish tables since the distribution of clearance times for any residual claims in Scotland is not representative of the usual customer journey and so results could be misleading.

Expected changes in future releases

In the March 2023 release, the Scottish tables will not include Clearance and Outstanding times and will therefore only contain the MR Clearance Time and Customer Journey Statistics. These will also be stopped at some future point.

From March 2023, the level of geographic detail available on Stat-Xplore will be extended to include wards, in order to bring published PIP statistics in line with other Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) statistical publications as an ongoing piece of work.
