Emissions of air pollutants in the UK, 1970 to 2016
Earlier editions of ‘Emissions of Air Pollutants in the UK’ have been typically published in December each year. The latest release covered the period 1970 to 2015 and was released on 21st December 2016. The next edition will cover the period 1970 to 2016 and will be published on 15th February 2018. It is foreseen that future editions will be published at a similar point in the year. The change in publication cycle represents an alignment between public reporting of the emissions statistics and the UK’s reporting obligations to the European Commission under the National Emission Ceilings Directive. The UK is required to submit emissions data for a large number of air pollutants by 15th February each calendar year. For example, the UK will submit 2016 emissions data to the Commission by 15th February 2018. This change also allows more robust quality assurance to take place; and will allow flexibility to improve the publication to reflect the needs of users in future editions.
