The underlying data has been subject to minor amendments due to the discovery of a processing error since this release was first published on 7 December 2016. These changes are small and the impact has been minimal. The only figures in the main text affected are the total number of goods lifted in 2015 (revised from 98.1 to 98.2 million tonnes) and unitised traffic accounted for 11% of total goods moved (revised from 10%). This has affected the internal inland waterway figures in tables DWF0101, 0102, 0204, 0205, 0206, 0207 and 0208.
Statistics on freight moved within the UK by water transport.
In 2015:
- coastwise traffic increased by 26% to 24.5 billion tonne-kilometres
- one-port traffic fell by 9% to 5.8 billion tonne-kilometres
- inland waters traffic remained steady at 1.5 billion tonne-kilometres
The total amount of goods moved for all domestic waterborne freight increased by 16% to 31.4 billion-tonne kilometres.
