Statistics release cancelled
Defence Statistics have decided to postpone the production of the MOD health and safety statistics 2019/2020 due for publication on 19 November 2020. The proposal is to delay publication until summer 2021, at which time data for 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 will be released together.
The reason for the postponement is due to concerns of data quality issues which have impacted on the latest years data.
Some MOD departments have made considerable changes to how health and safety is recorded which has led to a loss of coherence in what data has been collected and there are difficulties in compiling an agreed set of variables.
In addition, the data extraction tools from the different systems have not been updated to reflect changes in data gathering, resulting in an increased burden for compiling the different data sets into one authoritative source of information for the official statistic.
We will use the additional time created by the postponement to resolve the underlying data capture issues to ensure we get as complete a picture as possible for publication during summer 2021.
