This prison service instruction (PSI) contains rules and guidance for making sure that prisoners know about, have access to and are encouraged to make the most of work and learning opportunities. It applies throughout their time in prison, including helping them to prepare for and access opportunities after release.

It covers:

• prisoner training and skills
• encouraging prisoners to join in with learning and work activities
• showing clear career pathways
• making sure there is a wide range of opportunities to cater for different needs

This is a current PSI. It came into effect on 1 April 2012. It was last updated on 27 January 2020.
