The Women’s Justice Board was established to support the government’s objective of reducing the number of women in prison and addressing the distinct needs of women in the criminal justice system.

At the request of ministers, members of the Board have produced a report setting out a series of recommendations for reducing women’s imprisonment.

The report sets out the views and recommendations of the Women’s Justice Board members. The government will consider these recommendations as part of its ongoing work on women’s justice and broader criminal justice reform.

The Women’s Justice Board membership includes:

  • Michaela Booth, National Lead for Patient and Family Engagement at Practice Plus Group
  • Bernie Bowen-Thomson, Chief Executive of Safer Wales
  • Anne Fox, Chief Executive of Clinks
  • Kate Green, Deputy Mayor of Greater Manchester for Safer and Stronger Communities
  • Lady Edwina Grosvenor, Founder and Chair of One Small Thing
  • Dr Tom McNeil, Chief Executive Officer of The JABBS Foundation for Women and Girls
  • Dr Shona Minson, Research Associate at Centre for Criminology, Oxford
  • Pia Sinha, Chief Executive Officer of Prison Reform Trust
  • Katy Swaine Williams, Criminal Justice Consultant, including for Centre for Women’s Justice
