Water for life and livelihoods: Managing water for people, business, agriculture and the environment

The Environment Agency's approach to water regulation, how it manages water for people, business, agriculture and the environment.

This publication was withdrawn on

This guidance was produced to support the review of the river basin management plans, which were originally published in December 2009.

Following three public consultations and extensive engagement with partners and the public by the Environment Agency, the updated river basin management plans were published in February 2016. Because the key information from this guidance has been incorporated (and updated where relevant) into the updated river basin management plans and associated guidance, it is no longer required as a standalone document.
