Waste Recycling Group (Central) Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract water from underground strata consisting of the superficial Summertown-Radley Sand and Gravel Member, which overlays mudstone of the Oxford Clay and West Walton formation, at Dix Pit Landfill site, Stanton Harcourt, Oxfordshire from the area which is marked by National Grid References SP 40956 04537, SP 41134 04637, SP 41192 04518, and SP 40990 04405, to transfer it to Dix Pit Lake at National Grid Reference SP 41082 04885 without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 90 cubic metres an hour
  • 2,160 cubic metres a day
  • 790,560 cubic metres a year
  • between January and December inclusive in each year.

The purpose of the transfer is dewatering to facilitate landfill cell development and landfilling operations. All water removed from the proposed abstraction area will be discharged into Dix Pit Lake via a consented discharge point.
