Wages and running costs: 2009 to 2011

Published 7 September 2011

We were asked:

  1. How much the Wales Office has spent on wages and other running costs associated with the operation of the press office in 2009/10 and 2010/11.
  2. How many press officers have been employed in 2009/10 and 2010/11.
  3. How much the Wales Office spent on hiring private PR firms during 2009/10 and 2010/11.

The information is below:

  1. The Wales Office spent £343,627 in 2009/10 and £274,250 in 2010/11 on our press office. This expenditure includes wages, employers’ liabilities, travel, accommodation and associated costs such as media monitoring. Due to the nature of the Department’s work, the press team work from both our Cardiff and London offices which results in staff travelling between sites as well as travelling across Wales accompanying Ministers on visits.
  2. The Wales Office employed 3 press officers in each of the years.
  3. The Wales Office did not hire any private PR firms in 2009/10 or 2010/11.
