Viridor Tees Valley Limited: application made to abstract water

Viridor Tees Valley Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from underground strata comprising superficial deposits and mudstone at Tees Valley Energy Recovery Facility between National Grid References NZ 54478 21464, NZ 54545 21325, NZ 54364 21255 & NZ 54287 21391.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 27 cubic metres an hour
  • 649 cubic metres a day
  • 40,000 cubic metres a year.

Abstraction will take place all year for at least 12 months.

Dewatering is required to allow the construction of below-ground structures at Tees Valley Energy Recovery Facility. All water will be returned to the Holme Beck at National Grid Reference NZ 54267 21362.
