Vale Brook culvert repairs

Updated 7 April 2014

Vale Brook culvert carries fluvial (river) and surface-water run-off through Chesham Town Centre and down to the River Chess. The Environment Agency is proposing to replace 40 metres of the culvert running beneath Market Square, which is in poor condition and at risk of collapse.

Replacing the culvert will prevent damage to Market Square and the properties next to the culvert. It will also reduce flood risk from rivers to the High Street area.

The Environment Agency is working in partnership with Buckinghamshire County Council, Chiltern District Council and Chesham Town Council on this project.

Latest update

The Environment Agency started work to replace 40 metres of the culvert on 24 March 2014. They expect to finish the construction phase by the end of summer 2014.

Work will take place during weekdays and over some weekends.
