The statement records the findings and recommendations of the UK National Contact Point on a complaint.
The complaint is from 2 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that a UK company acted inconsistently with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Guidelines for multinational enterprises, in developing plans for coal mining in Bangladesh.
The 2 NGOs are:
- the International Accountability Project (IAP), a civil society organisation based in the United States
- the World Development Movement (WDP), a civil society organisation based in the United Kingdom
A review of the final statement by the UK NCP Steering Board Review Committee has also been published. The NCP will issue a follow-up report in May 2015.
The OECD guidelines provide recommendations for business conduct that the UK government encourages UK businesses to comply with wherever they are trading and operating.
