Details

The UK is a global leader in advanced materials science. Metamaterial technologies have the potential to transform key UK industries and support economic growth.

This roadmap, developed with government, academia, industry and delivery partners, sets out how the UK can connect, scale and focus its existing strengths to build a coherent national metamaterials ecosystem and achieve global industrial leadership over the next decade and beyond.

It identifies 5 priorities:

  • strengthening ecosystem coordination
  • improving the innovation pathway
  • developing manufacturing and scale-up capability
  • delivering assured products through standards and regulation
  • building a skilled workforce

Delivery is phased, with foundations established by 2030, scaled delivery achieved by 2035, and a self-sustaining, globally leading ecosystem beyond 2035.

A technical annex for the roadmap is available on the Institute of Physics website.
