The UK Film Council works to promote a competitive and successful UK film industry, by investing government grant-in-aid and lottery funds to develop new British films and filmmakers and to ensure that audiences have access to a wider choice of films throughout the UK. It also invests in training and promotion activities, promotes Britain as an international filmmaking location, and works to raise the profile of British films abroad.
