Tonga: legitimacy
This section tells HM passport office staff about legitimacy in Tonga.
Tonga recognises a difference between legitimate and illegitimate births.
A child will be considered:
- legitimate
- if the parents were married at the time of the birth
- from the time of marriage, if the parents get married and the mother was not married to someone else at the time of the birth
- illegitimate, if:
- their parents are not married at the time of the birth
- the mother was married to someone else at the time of the birth, and they re-marry
Tonga: civil partnerships and marriage
This section tells HM passport office staff about civil partnerships and marriage in Tonga.
Same sex civil partnerships and marriages are not recognised in Tonga.
