Details
The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology commissioned Lancaster University to conduct a thematic review and gap analysis covering peer-reviewed research on the security of AI from the last five years (January 2021 to January 2026). This report was sought to provide a detailed overview of the state of research in this field.
The study identified 9,109 relevant publications which could be grouped under 12 themes. The research also found various gaps in the literature, with five prevalent areas identified.
Please note this report presents independent research commissioned by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. The views expressed do not represent UK government policy and the report’s findings are derived from research led by Lancaster University.
This research is part of the government’s wider work to understand the cyber security implications of critical and emerging technologies, and to support improvement of the UK’s cyber resilience.
