Details

The Volatile Organic Compounds in Paints, Varnishes and Vehicle Refinishing Products Regulations 2012 state that many decorative paints and paints used by vehicle body shops for repairs can only be marketed if they have less than specified amounts of volatile organic compounds in them.

The Regulatory Policy Committee (RPC) gave a ‘green’ rating to the post implementation review of the regulations on 4 March 2025. This means that we considered the review to be fit for purpose based on our scrutiny of the evidence and analysis presented.

The RPC’s opinion refers to the evidence and analysis presented in the review, not the policy itself.
