Details of the applications
The Tweed Forum has applied to the Environment Agency for two licences.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of these applications in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a licence to abstract (take) water from a tributary of the River Breamish at Hedgeley Estate, Powburn, Northumbria between National Grid References (NGRs): NU 06335 17791 and NU 06347 17866 to transfer it to the same tributary at National Grid Reference: NU 06406 18013 without intervening use.
The application is to abstract water as follows:

2,016 cubic metres an hour

48,384 cubic metres a day

1,741,824 cubic metres a year

between 1 November and 31 March inclusive in each year.
Abstraction will take place by infilling a length of the existing channel and lowering an existing embankment alongside that length of infilled channel.
The Tweed Forum has also applied for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of tributaries of the River Breamish at Hedgeley Estate, Powburn, Northumbria at NGRs: NU 06477 17769, NU 06355 17885, NU 07299 18125 and NU 07748 19347 by means of channel infill sections. Each section will be infilled to a height of 200 millimetres above the floodplain level but each to a different length, the longest section being approximately 73 metres. Water will be impounded to cause water to flow on to the surrounding floodplain. These works are part of a nature conservation scheme.
