Exchange of letters between Stephen Brien, chair of the Social Security Advisory Committee (SSAC) and Baroness Sherlock, Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Minister of State (Minister for Lords). The letters are about the Social Security (Further Methods of Recovery) Regulations 2026. These provide for:

  • the recovery of debt through Direct Deduction Orders from bank accounts in cases where recovery cannot take place through existing benefit or PAYE routes
  • applications to the magistrates’ court for disqualification from driving where recovery from bank accounts has not worked
