The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number AN/037/0039/007 to abstract water from Salcottstone Brook at National Grid Reference (NGR) TL 96420 12950 for the purpose of transferring it without intervening use to Old Hall Marshes Nature Reserve at Maldon, Essex.

The variation applied for is: to add an additional abstraction point at NGR TL 96160 12797.

The applicant has applied to abstract the following volumes at the new abstraction point:

  • 40 cubic metres an hour
  • 350 cubic metres a day
  • 15,000 cubic metres a year

Further details are: The proposed abstraction lies within the Essex Abstraction Management Strategy reporting area. The proposed means of abstraction is a solar pump and abstraction from the new point will take place between September to April inclusive.
