- the number of firearm discharges per 1,000 population for the following regions or the Police authority that covers that region, London, Birmingham, Nottingham, Manchester, Cardiff, Leeds, Liverpool and Newcastle for the years 2009 to 2012.
- the total number of firearm discharges for the years 2009 to 2012.

The attached PDF reply is based upon where cases where firearms have been fired in the course of a criminal offence which has been recorded by the police. It is important to note that not all illegal uses of a firearm will come to the attention of the police.
