Exchange of notes between the UK and Switzerland on extending the temporary Services Mobility Agreement, October 2025 - web version

1. Note by Switzerland

The Embassy of Switzerland in the United Kingdom presents its compliments to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and has the honour to refer to the Temporary Agreement between the Swiss Confederation (‘Switzerland”) and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (“United Kingdom”) on Services Mobility, signed in London on 14 December 2020 (“SMA”), and prolonged by means of an exchange of notes on 14 and 17 November 2022.

The Embassy of Switzerland in the United Kingdom has the honour to propose, on behalf of the Swiss Federal Council, that the Parties hereby agree, in accordance with Article 19 paragraph 6 of the SMA, that the SMA shall end on 31 December 2029, unless the Parties agree otherwise.

If the aforementioned proposal to prolong the duration of the SMA is acceptable to the United Kingdom, this Note and the United Kingdom’s reply to that effect shall constitute an agreement between Switzerland and the United Kingdom, which shall enter into force on the first day of the second month following the date of receipt of the United Kingdom’s reply.

The Embassy of Switzerland in the United Kingdom avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office the assurances of its highest consideration.

2. Note by the United Kingdom

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office presents its compliments to the Embassy of Switzerland in the United Kingdom and has the honour to acknowledge receipt of the note by the Embassy of Switzerland in the United Kingdom no.76 dated 21 October 2025 that reads as follows:

“The Embassy of Switzerland in the United Kingdom presents its compliments to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and has the honour to refer to the Temporary Agreement between the Swiss Confederation (“Switzerland”) and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (“United Kingdom”) on Services Mobility, signed in London on 14 December 2020 (“SMA”) and prolonged by means of an exchange of notes on 14 and 17 November 2022.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has the honour to inform the Embassy that the proposals of the aforementioned note are acceptable to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (“United Kingdom”). The note by the Embassy and this note shall constitute an agreement between the United Kingdom and the Swiss Confederation which shall enter into force on the first day of the second month following the day of receipt of this note by the Embassy.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Embassy the assurances of its highest consideration.
