Tarmac Trading Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for two licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of these applications in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The first application (NPS/WR/046148) is for a full licence to abstract water from the underground strata comprising of sand and gravel at Wivenhoe Quarry, Alresford Road, Wivenhoe within the area enclosed by National Grid References TM 05615 22990, TM 05845 22925, TM 05772 22548 and TM 05605 22577.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 180 cubic metres an hour

  • 1,040 cubic metres a day

  • 100,000 cubic metres a year

  • between 1 September and 31 March inclusive in each year.

The water will be used for a one-time fill of a reservoir for subsequent mineral washing, dust suppression and general or process washing.

The second application (NPS/WR/046149) is for a full licence to abstract water from the Sixpenny Brook near Wivenhoe Quarry, Alresford Road, Wivenhoe at National Grid Reference TM 05450 22615.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 40 cubic metres an hour

  • 370 cubic metres a day

  • 25,128 cubic metres a year

The water will be used for topping up of the reservoir for subsequent mineral washing, dust suppression and general or process washing.
