The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and UK Steel convened the Steel Procurement Taskforce in March 2021. Members included representatives from the steel industry, government departments and agencies, and other major clients.
The Taskforce was asked to bring together evidence on the challenges the steel sector reported that they were facing in accessing opportunities to supply major public projects.
This report sets out the Taskforce’s conclusions on how government and industry can work together to help the steel sector best position itself for success in an open and transparent market. The Taskforce recommends the development of new technologies, improvement of data, and the promotion of greater transparency.
