This report discharges the government’s and Ofgem’s obligation under section 172 of the Energy Act 2004 as amended by section 80 of the Energy Act 2011; to report annually to Parliament on the availability of electricity and gas for meeting the reasonable demands of consumers in Great Britain.

It also discharges the government’s obligation under certain EU Directives to monitor gas and electricity security of supply issues and publish reports.

This year the report includes two annexes:

  1. the Secretary of State’s response to Ofgem’s Electricity Capacity Assessment Report which was published in June 2013
  2. an update to the indicators on security of supply published in the Energy Security Strategy of November 2012.
